Focuspace is a response to the global rise in neurodivergent diagnoses, particularly ADHD, Autism, and Dyslexia, and the challenges these individuals face in daily life. Many struggle with time management, mental clarity, executive function, and social integration due to a lack of tailored support systems. The aim was to design a solution that empowers neurodivergent individuals, helping them thrive in all areas of life, enabling them to be more efficient and productive, while mitigating the negative consequences of cognitive differences.
FOCUSPACE Project - Poster
A research-driven approach identified key problem areas through extensive secondary analysis, followed by targeted primary questionnaires to refine insights. Data-informed user personas guided the iterative development of conceptual solutions, which were continuously developed through evaluation, redesign, and prototyping stages.
Utilising 2D/3D sketching, CAD modelling, and simulation testing, the project culminated in a final design addressing ADHD-related challenges, with additional benefits for individuals with overlapping neurodivergent traits.
Findings highlight Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder as the most prevalent diagnosis, with core difficulties including time blindness, concentration deficits, restlessness, and forgetfulness. The final solution effectively counters these issues; however, prototype limitations necessitate further refinement to achieve a market-ready product.
Future development will focus on optimising functionality, usability, and manufacturability to ensure lasting benefits for users.
